Toronto’s independent film community is preparing for a major cultural moment this summer as legendary Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima brings his latest cinematic work, Black Lions – Roman Wolves, to Canada for an exclusive pre-release screening and live audience conversation.

Presented by Friends of Sankofa, the highly anticipated event will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience a two-hour segment of Gerima’s forthcoming documentary series before its official release.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in independent world cinema, Gerima has built an international reputation for fearless storytelling rooted in history, identity, resistance, and liberation.
