The Literary Salon, founded by the writer–journalist couple Sosina Ashenafi and Gezahegn Mekonnen, marked its first anniversary this Sunday, November 2, 2025, with a vibrant global celebration held on Zoom.
Over the past year, the Salon has connected Ethiopian writers from all corners of the world, fostering daily literary exchange, creativity, and collaboration seven days a week.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the first anthology of members’ works was published electronically and unveiled by the renowned author Fikremarkos Desta.
Distinguished guests of honor — the legendary actress and poet Alemtsehay Wodajo and Yikunoamlak Mezgebu, Director of the Addis Ababa University Press — delivered inspiring keynote addresses celebrating the power of literature, culture, and community.
The event also featured beautiful musical performances by Melat Mengesha and Steve Coby from Toronto, and Belay Melissie from London, UK, adding a soulful artistic touch to an unforgettable evening of words, music, and togetherness.
