Toronto, September 5, 2025 — The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) Inaugural Symposium is set to wrap up with its second and final session this Saturday, September 6, 2025, in a virtual gathering that brings together experts, policymakers, and community voices from around the globe.
The symposium, which launched earlier this month, has been dedicated to celebrating the historic achievement of the GERD while fostering thoughtful discussion about its role in Ethiopia’s development and its broader impact on regional cooperation.
Organizers say the closing session will provide a platform for science-based diplomatic dialogue, emphasizing pathways for shared benefits, sustainable water management, and respect among nations that share the Nile Basin.
“This symposium is more than a celebration of the GERD,” organizers noted. “It is an opportunity to strengthen dialogue, promote mutual respect, and build bridges that ensure prosperity for all nations involved.”
The event is open to participants worldwide and will highlight research, policy recommendations, and perspectives on how the GERD can contribute to peace, stability, and economic growth both within Ethiopia and across Africa.
