The Ethiopian Cultural & Sports League of Canada (ECSLC) proudly celebrated a successful inaugural launch event at LeVegan Restaurant, bringing together community leaders, athletes, youth, families, and supporters in a powerful celebration of unity, culture, and sportsmanship.
Established to unite Ethiopian communities from different provinces under one national platform, ECSLC was founded with a vision to celebrate Ethiopian heritage while promoting friendship, cultural pride, and healthy competition among Ethiopians living across Canada. The League serves as a bridge where tradition meets opportunity, creating meaningful connections across generations.
During the event, ECSLC officially introduced its board members, who shared their commitment to building a strong and inclusive organization dedicated to empowering the Ethiopian Canadian community through sports, culture, and community engagement. The leadership team highlighted the importance of collaboration, youth involvement, and preserving Ethiopian identity while fostering national unity.
The launch event was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and support from attendees, many of whom praised the initiative as a much-needed platform to bring Ethiopians together from coast to coast. Guests enjoyed networking opportunities, community discussions, and presentations outlining the organization’s upcoming activities and long-term vision.
A major highlight of the evening was the announcement of ECSLC’s official Kick-Off Soccer Tournament and Barefoot Challenge, scheduled to take place on June 14 at the University of Toronto Varsity Stadium. The highly anticipated event is expected to attract teams, supporters, and community members from across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
The tournament and barefoot challenge aim to celebrate unity, resilience, and community spirit through sports while creating an exciting and family-friendly atmosphere for all ages. Organizers say the event will feature competitive soccer matches, cultural entertainment, community activities, and opportunities to connect with Ethiopian Canadians from diverse backgrounds.
ECSLC’s guiding values — Community, Unity, Competition, and Culture — were reflected throughout the inaugural event and continue to shape the organization’s mission moving forward.
The League expressed gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the successful launch and encouraged community members nationwide to participate in the upcoming June 14 kick-off event and future ECSLC programs.
